The county is named for John Milton Elliott, U.S. Congressman; Confederate Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals. Elliott County is one of 55 counties in the Kentucky that is a dry county, meaning the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited everywhere in the county.
