Estill County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1808. As of 2000, the population was 15,307. Its county seat is Irvine, Kentucky. Formed in 1808, the county is named after Captain James Estill, a Kentucky militia officer killed in the Battle of Little Mountain during the American Revolutionary War. It is a prohibition or dry county. In 2008, Estill County welcomes the Estill County Bicentennial and include a yearlong celebration of themed months showcasing 200 years of history, importance and the viability of Estill County and its Twin Cities of Irvine & Ravenna. Both cities sit along the Kentucky River. Ravenna is home to the CSX Railroad and the historic Fitchburg & Cottage Furnaces and will conduct a Ravenna Railroad Festival in August 2008. Irvine i...
